Vybz Kartel’s fiancée: “To know Addi is to love Addi”

Incarcerated dancehall artist Vybz Kartel is engaged.

His fiancée, Sidem Ozturk opened up about their relationship in an interview with reporter Lisa Evers on Fox 5 New York on Tuesday night.

“We just called each other husband and wife, and he was like, ‘Calling you wife or you call me husband isn’t serious enough’; so he was like, ‘You’re my fiancée, we’re getting married,'” said a gushing Ozturk, who previously worked as a social worker in London, UK.

Adding that the proposal occurred during an authorized visit to the prison where Vybz Kartel, real name Adidja Palmer, is currently serving a life sentence for the 2011 murder of Clive ‘Lizard’ Williams.

Ozturk, who says she studied psychology, began corresponding with Vybz Kartel in 2015. Four years later, she packed her bags and moved to Kingston to be closer to the man she had fallen in love with.

She is now also the face of his latest project, the EP “True Religion“, which will be released on September 30.

A preview shared on Vybz Kartel’s Instagram page recently.

“He’s smart. I love his heart; he’s got an amazing heart. He’s so generous; he’s so loving. I like to call him my angel. He’s an angel in my life, and I can’t denying how he makes me feel and how happy he makes me. So to actually be here in Jamaica engaged to Addi is a dream come true. I still haven’t processed it right in my head,” a she declared.

She said there was no engagement ring because she didn’t want one. Instead, she hopes the two can get their names tattooed on their ring fingers one day.

There were reports in 2018 that Vybz Kartel and his longtime common-law wife, Tanesha ‘Shorty’ Johnson, had ended their relationship. The couple have three children, two of whom follow in the footsteps of Vybz Kartel and pursue a musical career.

In September 2020, Vybz Kartel and his co-defendants were granted conditional leave to go to the UK Privy Council to challenge their murder conviction. They aim to have his conviction overturned, and if that happens, Ozturk may have his own fairy tale.

“Love only wins; his love is so strong. It takes over everything, and to know Addi is to love Addi,” she said.

The Fox 5NY interview was also reposted to the incarcerated artist’s Instagram account with the caption: Who vex? Drink water and watch your stuff! @sidemozturk ❤️❤️❤️ #fox5 @lisaevers.
